Plant Lantana!
Lantana is a wonderful choice for your garden, landscape, or pot. They bloom basically spring up until the freezing temperatures arrive here in Austin. They come in a variety of sizes and colors. There is solid white, solid purple, and gold color that trail. If you prefer the shrub for, there is a wide array of multicolored ones that are more shrub-like that range from one foot by one foot to larger 4′ x 4′ shrubs. The nice thing about them other than the nonstop color of their blooms is that they are great attractors for pollinators.
Butterflies and bees love the Lantana.
Some say, and I don’t think they are wrong, that the butterflies like the flat pads of the blooms, using them as landing pads while they get the nectar. Monarchs, Swallowtail, Skippers as well as several other varieties of butterflies adore these plants. It’s easy to see why.
Lantana is drought tolerant once established here in Austin, Texas. There are several Texas natives as well as adapted native varieties; all do prefer full sun though can tolerate some shade. Often times they are paired with Texas Sage, Salvias, Cactus, Yuccas, or even succulents. They are popular in the landscape but they also do well in containers. Really you just can’t go wrong adding these to your garden, landscape or planter. They are truly bloom blasters and will liven up any setting.
So, if you are looking to spruce up your garden, or landscape or even add a pop of color here and there with your pots this is an excellent choice!
