The hummingbirds are going crazy over the Salvia ‘Amistad’. They are buzzing around all over the place. I could sit and watch them for hours. They are so fun!!!
The Salvia ‘Amistad’ is a great Salvia offering tons of color to spruce up a shade or full sun garden. It will grow larger in the full sun and will be a bit shorter in the shade. Regardless of where you plant it, you and the hummingbirds will love it! The blooms are a vibrant purple and deep black which makes for a striking combination sure to perk up any garden.
Red is typically what most people plant to attract hummingbirds, but this Salvia will change your mind about that. The Salvia ‘Amistad’ is a wonderful choice for a dramatic pop of color in full sun beds or in the shade, and believe me, the hummingbirds will find it. Don’t worry about that.
It grows/works great in a container as well. If you plant it in a container, it will not get as large as when planted and of course will depend on you for water. If planted in the ground, once established, needs little care and little water. To maintain shape as well as to encourage blooms, it is never a bad idea to trim it a little here and there. In short, if you are trying to attract hummingbirds, my recommendation is to plant the Salvia ‘Amistad’.
