Carex ‘Feather Falls’: Care & Growing Tips

Carex ‘Feather Falls’ is a fantastic choice for Central Texas landscapes.  This ornamental grass is highly adaptable and thrives in both sun and shade.  In fact, it is one of the few ornamental grasses that truly thrives in our heavy shade environments while remaining evergreen.  This makes it a perfect solution for those tricky spots under large shade trees or along north-facing walls in Lakeway, Dripping Springs and Austin.

Beyond its versatility, ‘Feather Falls’ features beautiful variegated foliage that cascades gracefully over garden edges or decorative pots. Because it is remarkably low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, it handles our local Texas weather with ease. As a result, you can confidently use it as a reliable groundcover or a stunning container accent.

Landscape Design Ideas:   Pair it with darker perennials or groundcovers for a high-contrast look.  The Carex ‘Feather Falls’ has a cascading habit making it an excellent “spiller” in large containers. Ultimately, its arching leaves provide a soft, fountain-like movement that complements the architectural lines of agaves or yuccas in a xeriscape design.
