Heat-Tolerant & Fragrant: Why We Love Dianthus ‘Firewitch’

Meet one of our most popular perennials! Dianthus ‘Firewitch’ is famous for its brilliant magenta-pink blooms and silvery blue-green foliage. This drought tolerant plant emits a sweet, clove-like fragrance.  It serves as an excellent low-growing groundcover or border plant for Central Texas gardens.

Why we love Dianthus ‘Firewitch’ in Austin:

  • Heat & Humidity Tolerant: Unlike many other pinks, ‘Firewitch’ stands up remarkably well to our intense Texas summers.

  • Evergreen Interest: The blue-gray, grassy foliage stays attractive year-round, providing a cool contrast to darker green shrubs.

  • Pollinator Magnet: Butterflies and bees are naturally drawn to the spicy scent and vibrant magenta color.

  • Low Maintenance: Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and deer-resistant.  As always, remember that deer-resistant is not deer-proof.

Quick Planting Tips: For the best results in your landscape, plant your Dianthus in full sun and well-draining soil. It works beautifully in rock gardens, along stone pathways, or spilling over the edge of a decorative container.
