Looking for a true powerhouse that laughs at the intense Texas summer sun?  Meet Salvia’ Amistad’.  Salvia ‘Amistad’ is a staple at Vivero Growers Nursery and has been for a long time.  Why?  This stunning perennial is a show stopper of vibrant flowers blooming spring thru first frost.  It has deep purple blooms and black calyxes making a dramatic combination of color in the garden.

The pollinators love it and it is a hummingbird magnet.  The tubular flowers attract the hummingbirds, bees and butterflies alike.  The ‘Amistad’ thrives in well drained soil, and can also still perform in a shade morning and afternoon sunny day setting.  This low maintenance heat tolerant is a must have for any Austin garden or landscape.  Don’t have a garden?  This does fantastic in a container.  Trim for shape and sit back and enjoy the blooms.

It is a perennial that will die down in the winters here in Austin, Texas and the surrounding area and come back in the spring.  For pruning tips check out our spring pruning guide.

Fun fact- Amistad means friendship in Spanish so Salvia Amistad is often referred to as the friendship plant.
