Vivero Growers Nursery Dripping Springs is your local expert for what to plant in your area.

New to Dripping Springs?  Wondering if you can plant Azaleas in your yard?   We have people walk in all the time that have recently moved to the area from all over ready to plant.  It is an exciting time and we want you to be successful.  We are here to help guide and assist.  First and foremost you should know we grow and produce plants that work will in the area.

We know that it is hard to resist the latest newest and prettiest plants.  We get it,  but sadly for Dripping Springs and the surrounding areas, lots of those plants don’t work here or need lots of care and upkeep.   And let’s be honest, most people do not want to have a high maintenance plant.  Vivero Growers Nursery specializes in things that do well with little help once established.  Our goal is to make your gardening and planting experience successful and long lasting.

Yucca rostrata and Mystic SpiresLiving in the hill country does not mean you can’t have pretty plants.

You can!  You just have to be mindful what you plant and help it along until it gets going.    The Yucca Rostrata is a fantastic example.   This plant is a drought tolerant tough Texas native that looks beautiful all alone or when paired with perennials.  They can grow as a single head or have multiple heads as shown here.  In this photo it is placed alongside the Mystic Spires Salvia which is a winner in most anyones book.   It is a wonderful plant to attract the pollinators and blooms spring through our first freeze.  It’s hard to beat the beautiful blue flowers!!

You honestly can’t go wrong with any of the Yuccas for that matter.  The Yucca pallida is a smaller Yucca that blooms bell like flowers on a spike.  The Red Yucca is a wonderful clumping Yucca that blooms red bloom spikes and is very drought tolerant.  The Giant Yucca is a larger upright yucca that is green with white filaments.  We have all of these Yuccas and more at Vivero Growers Nursery Dripping Springs.

pink Pavonia Rock Rose bloom and beePlanting a butterfly garden or just want to attract pollinators to your yard?

We have several plants that will do just that!  Bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and even the hummingbird moth which is so fun to watch.  There are so many Texas native plants that have beautiful blooms and are so colorful.  Once these natives and adapted natives are established they can survive our brutal summers we have had lately.  I don’t know about you but this last one was a doozie!  The Pavonia Rock Rose is a tough Texas Native that has bright pink blooms that resemble a Hibiscus.  They are a low growing perennial and the bees and butterflies adore them.

Compact Orange TecomaThe compact orange Tecoma is a favorite of almost all the pollinators -but the hummingbirds in particular love this plant.

The long tubular blooms are a vibrant orange and bloom spring thru our first freeze.   Many are familiar with the “Yellow Bells” or the Esperanza.  These are all the same family, the yellow bells grow larger and have yellow blooms and are another tough Texas native plant to add to your landscape or garden.  There are so many options for color –  Texas might be hot but we also have lots of plants that can take it!!    It just takes a little bit of knowledge to figure out what works here and what doesn’t.  If you have not discovered our YouTube channel, you will find information on lots of plants, trees and succulents.  Our latest video Plants blooming summer thru fall features the Orange Tecoma, the Althea Rose of Sharon as well as the Thryallis.  All are wonderful selections for the Dripping Springs area.

Pride of barbados bloom up closeKeep in mind when planting that the soil in Dripping Springs and the surrounding area can be a challenge.

Tailoring your plants to your area is key.   The Pride of Barbados, for example, is a tough adapted plant for the area.  It needs very little once established.  It will die down in the winter and once it heats up will shoot up and wow you with color until it freezes.   If we have a particularly rough winter you can always mulch it (as you can with anything to help insulate).  Gardening does not have to be a frustrating experience.   Visit us at Vivero Growers Nursery Dripping Springs and let us help you to make it a fun enjoyable experience!   We are located at 12000 HWY 290 West, 78737.   If you haven’t already, come check us out!
